Merry Christmas
Visitors to the actual installation were invited to sit down on a piano stool and put on headphones to listen to a recording of my mother playing Christmas carols and my father singing. Visitors to the virtual site can listen by clicking on the third album for sound and a slide show. At the end of my reading at the opening reception, we put up the slide show from the web site on a wall and watched and listened together.
My mother made the lace and the doll with wedding veil. Next to this doll I placed an invitation to my parents' wedding (1932), a sepia-toned photo of my mother at the time, and a letter from her father Charles Carr giving his approval. "Anyone would be lucky to have any one of my girls," he wrote.
